SWaDE (Satellite-based Water Demand Estimation), a UK/Ethiopia based tech start-up, is currently carrying out field research to understand the potential of such a platform to meet the irrigation needs of smallholder farmers in Garda Marta, Ethiopia. Their research will investigate the needs and barriers to farmers adopting the platform and routes to sustainability and scaling, as well as the design for a potential 12-18 month pilot of their technology.

We are seeking an independent technical expert to be a ‘critical friend’ of SWaDE, reviewing their methodology and findings, assessing the relevance of the platform to address farmer needs, and providing advice to ensure a potential pilot would provide the learning necessary to assess the innovation.
