Embracing Data, Locally, a Frontier Tech Hub film

A film about using frontier tech to inform community preparedness against climate-related disasters in Nepal, building on our in-depth evidence on using IoT Sensors for Impact across our portfolio.

Every year in Nepal, the Rajapur Municipality is impacted by floods and the Barabhise Municipality is impacted by landslides. There is data available to help plan against these shocks, but it is not currently utilised on a local level.

This short film tells the story of the humans in Rajapur and Katmandu working to engage local communities to prepare against the impacts of climate shocks.

How the tech works

The BiPAD portal uses big data analytics to track risk across Nepal, pulling data from multiple sources such as geospatial and sensors on the ground.

This pilot is exploring how to use this platform to assist local government and communities in making informed decisions on how to protect their communities against earthquake, landslide and flood hazards and negate the impact of climate change.

Many thanks to our partners and collaborators at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Youth Innovation Labs and Picnic Films for bringing this story to life.
